Synopsis

The abandoned Yudelang Estate in France’s Dior Valley holds countless tangled bonds and buried secrets. Isser, an orphaned Romani girl, has lived there alone for seven years, surviving by cutting rushes. When Georges, a man from Bordeaux, returns in search of the past his father left behind at the estate, he and Isser gradually form a deep connection. Jean, the son of a prominent local family, is in love with Isser but is pressured by his family into an arranged marriage with Mu, the daughter of the Grand family. Longing to escape the life chosen for her, Mu begins to develop feelings for Georges. Jacques, the family’s eldest son and a compulsive gambler, cannot accept his sister’s rejection of the engagement. During an argument on a stormy night, he accidentally causes Mu’s death, and the family covers it up as an accident. Sensing that something is wrong, Isser joins forces with Georges and a guilt-ridden Jean to uncover the truth. In the end, Jacques turns himself in. Talleyrand, the owner of the estate, finally lets go of the past and gives the property to Isser and Georges. The two remain in the valley, planting trees and flowers in Mu’s memory and later welcoming a daughter named Muira. The Dior River bears witness to every regret and every act of redemption. Desolation is never the destiny of the land: when people have the courage to choose their own path and remain true to what they cherish, even the most barren place can become a home—and a promise.
